Aug. 1st, 2002 11:54 amRiddle me this. Suppose that you are responsible for the computer support of an entire department. You get a batch of new computers in. You were told that the institution's centralized computer lab system (let's call this...um...Tiger-LAN just for grins) was still going to have Windows 2000 instead of Windows XP. Your new computers are for a lab is not a Tiger-LAN lab. The computers also come pre-installed with Windows XP on them. You want to put Windows 2000 on them but the driver CDs with the new comptuers (and this is according to him, I don't believe this) only have Windows XP drivers. How would you get the 2000 drivers?
Any support person worth anything would know the support website for their computers back to front. Dell (as much as I think they're crap) does have an above decent support website. Especially for driver downloads.
The moron wants me to make a CD of drivers for him. My boss started to tell me about the situation and I told him that I knew about it and asked why he couldn't do a simple little thing like this. I told my boss that if he tells me to do it I will, but I don't think we should be providing that basic level of support to someone that should know how to do that. "What if he doesn't know how to do it?" My boss asks. "He's been here how long?" I reply. My boss is going to talk to him and I might have to teach someone that makes significantly more than me how to use a website. A FREAKING WEBSITE!!!
If anyone knows what a duct tape situation from the Glenn Beck Program is this is feels like one. It's something that's so stupid that intelligent people need to wrap their heads in duct tape so when my head explodes the doctors will have all the pieces. I feel like this right now.
