Almost HDTV goodness.

we were so close to getting a HDTV last night, then Best Buy's credit application network went down. We've decided on a 42" LG from Best Buy because they've got a deal going where you get 3 years with no interest on TVs. Assuming the credit thing goes through (and Teresa has super credit, so it should) we're going to get it and an upscaling DVD player tomorrow. We were going to get the HD Tivo, but I think we're going to go with Comcast's crappy DVR for now. Our service will only go up by $8 and Tivo would be $299 up front and $6.95/month plus the cost of the cable cards (which Comcast has still not called me back about).

Oooh, be sure to post about the cable card details with the HD tivo! I really want to know how that works out.

I found out from aardwolf that they're $1.95/card/month. Tivo HD is $299 and the monthly fee is $6.95 with a three year contract. I don't know if that'd be less because I already have a Tivo (2 actually). I think we're leaning toward the craptastic Comcast DVR for a while, but we'll see.

I think the 3-year contract may only be $6.95 because it's technically my second TiVo. The price will probably go up a little bit once I cancel the 2nd generation one (if I can sell it.)

My parents use the Time Warner HD DVR, and it's the vienna sausage of DVRs. :-)

I HATE COMCAST. But I have to use them because I don't have an apartment with a balconie to put the dish on. My mom has direct tv with a hd tivo and its truely so much better than comcast.

You still have to pay a 6.95 fee per month with a dvr from comcast. Direct tv has better deals for a mucvh cheaper price than comcast.

the problem with Tivo is the up front cost. If we can roll it into the credit for the TV, I might try and do it, but I don't know. The monthly fee will work out to be about the same either way.

Yea, I know. My mom had comcast until about 8 months ago. She said she ahted that you had to buy the hd dvr but in the long run she said it pays off. Comcast is very good at fucking up your bill every month..and when you call to get it creidt, they say they do it, but sometimes don't.

I'm soo looking forward to when I move into another apartment with a balcoine. Cause my comcast service is lame sometimes and lags like abig dog.
