Cingular has customer support right down there with Dell. I called today about a client's Blackberry and was transferred from Customer Support to Tech Support, back to Customer Support, to a "level 3" tech support rep, who then transferred me back to the menu I started at.

All we needed to do was see if they could reset the guy's password for their Blackberry web site account. The general response I got was "we don't do that," then after I told them the url for their blackberry site they told me that I had to answer the secret question on the site to reset it. I had already told them we didn't know that answer and thus were told to call them. When all that failed, we tried a bunch of different guesses and one worked. I hung up on the rep I was on hold with.

Cingular, welcome to my "Never To Be Recommended Even If Its To Someone I Hate" list. You'll be comfortable right beside Dell.

Sounds like a blackberry specific problem. You gotta know the question- I think that's a universal deal.

I've had a lot of luck with Cingular, ever since they evolved into it, that is. I'd highly recommend.

I am, however, interested in your problems with Dell. I'm about to order a laptop and want to know about the customer service.

I wish my Dell Sucks blog was still around. I chronicled over a years worth of Hell dealing with Dell. If you're a corporation or school you get good support. If you're a home user then you're the dirt under the gum under their support people's shoes. I'm not kidding.

and the problem was with their site. we just needed his password for http://cingular.com/blackberry/ reset. I'd think they can do that since the page gave me the number to call.

That sounds totally crap. I'd be embarrassed to work for a company like that. Way we do it is: you call the help desk, we don't deal with Blackberry's, so we transfer you to the Data team; they fix the problem, or if they can't, they arrange a callback and go to the person or persons who can; they then call you back to either update you on their progress or tell you what should be done next - ie. there's a physical problem, get it checked. For something like a password.... it's a thirty second deal, and it's fixed.
