Deja vu...I just posted the text below the cheesy title on Dell's Dell Talk boards. So far no one at Dell, not regular Customer Support, not my school's contacts, and not even the guy that helped me get the replacement Inspiron 8100 has even appeared to care about my issue. I have not only had a loss of my warranty, but I was starting to work on a DOS networking floppy idea I had. That's been put on a standstill. Anyway, on to the post:

Dell Wars: Episode two - Attack of the Floppies.
I had an Inspiron 8000 for almost a year with constant hardware problems and finally after getting to a manager with Dell support I was sent an Inspiron 8100 to replace it last September. I have three issues with this new system. I just discovered they're all related. I have constantly tried to get this fixed with no response from Dell and only by my own searching I found out what has probably happened,

The main issue seems to be with the information my Dell service tag brings up on the Dell support web site. The configuration is still showing an I8000 with the old config instead of an I8100 and it also shows no warranty. My I8000 Service tag was 5495801 and the I8100 tag is 5HRQT01. Just on a whim I decided to look up my old system and I saw it had a warranty. I thought that I had a solution there, but the "ship to" information was different. So I'm still without my warranty. I paid for the 3 year extended on site warranty and I have needed to use it for the past few months. Can SOMEONE at Dell please tell me what happened to my system and how I can get my Warranty back?

My floppy drive went out a few months ago and I (well, I did) use it often. I really need my floppy drive working again so I can finish a project I was working on when it died. The Dell Diagnostics error I got (after having to make a bootable CD to run the diag program) gives this error about the floppy that I typed in below.

Diskette Drive B - Diskette Drive Seek Test :Fail
