Jan. 26th, 2002 04:26 pmI went to the mug after work last night and it turned out that someone didn't show that was supposed to work, so I decided to test out my arm some and helped out for a while. It's amazing, not working there for just 2 weeks has made me realize how much working there Friday nights has benefitted me. I need some sort of social interaction other than the same old stuff at the UofM, and serving coffee to people on Fridays seems to fill that need. Volunteering feels good, too. I've always been involved in something by volunteering ever since I could remember. Somehow I always tend to be in some sort of leadership position in whatever it is too. It started in Cub Scouts, and on through Boy Scouts until I got burnt out after I graduated high school. In college I discovered the BSU (Baptist Student Union) and I just enjoied participating in the things for a year or so, then I joined the council and eventually served as the president for a year and a half.
As that winded down I became more active in the college ministry at church. I started out just helping set up and that led to me putting all the praise and worship songs in powerpoint and doing that for almost 2 years. Doing that every week (and eventually twice a week) took it's toll and I got burnt out again. I didn't do any volunteer work for a while until I started hanging out at the Mug more. I figured one night a week wasn't that bad, and I don't have a social life here in memphis, so I volunteered my Fridays to the Mug. I also am going to start helping with the praise and worship computer stuff at Venture (Sunday nights at the mug). I know how you can get burnt out, so I suggested to Bill that I could help and we could eventually alternate weeks and it'd ease the stress.
on another note, migraines suck. :P
