I wanna cry. Last nite I went to bed and plugged in my laptop. I didn't notice the other end wasn't plugged in, so the battery died. I plugged it in this morning and Windows gave me a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) that said I had an "Unmountable boot volume." Well that's just dandy. I get to work and have to fix about 10 problems and help the president of the university with a powerpoint presentation. When I finally got to work on my laptop I discovered that the partition was now "Unknown." I tried a quick format and a windows reinstall in the hope that I could recover some of my 30GB of stuff I didn't have backed up. but windows couldn't find files it had just copied. So the drive is pretty much shot. I did happen to have a 20GB laptop hard drive here so I'm not completely helpless, but I've got no hope of restoring those files.
*sigh*
I realy just wanna cry.

Have you tried easyrecovery? True, I only got stuff like filenames back, but that was after two formats. Let me know if you want to try it...

I can't even get an operating system on the thing. I'm just gonna get a replacement drive.

Put the hard drive on a working computer as a secondary drive. Then, run a recovery tool to try and get the data.

BTW, At my house, I have a laptop hard drive adapter. It converts a laptop hard drive into a standard IDE drive.

if you can bring that i'll try it. didn't see this when i replied before.

I'm mainly upset because I had some videos I did and hadn't saved anywhere else. It looks like the drive is just failing. I really doubt I can recover anything.
