Jan. 18th, 2003 03:56 pmI was just billed for service with my old ISP even though they don't exist anymore. I just sent them this:
After I received this e-mail I didn't return to the directvdsl site until today because it didn't look like I had to.
I was just charged $54.12 for service that no longer exists. I have been transitioned by Speakeasy DSL's DirectSwitch program and was never informed by DirecTVdsl either by e-mail or otherwise about having to disconnect my service. I was told on Dec. 18 via an e-mail "This email shall constitute DIRECTV Broadband’s 30 day notice of termination to you." It is now Jan. 18 and today I was billed. If you gave me notice, then that was the termination and I should not have been billed.
Upon calling I could only talk to DirecTV people and no DirecTVdsl people. They would not help me at all. They referred me to your website which I hadn't visited since ordering Speakeasy. I have been on Speakeasy for about 2 weeks now and do not understand I was billed for future non-existant service. This loss of money will cause me to suffer damages including late fees and missed payments. I wish to have the $54.12 refunded to my checking account within 10 business days and also be contacted by a supervisor about this or I will search for other legal means of recouping my lost money.
After I received this e-mail I didn't return to the directvdsl site until today because it didn't look like I had to.

Subject: Important Information on Your DIRECTV DSL Service
Dear DIRECTV DSL customer,
We have some difficult news to share. With the dramatic change in the capital
markets and the significant shift in the telecom operating environment, DIRECTV
Broadband can no longer stand as an independent business.
It is our sincere regret to inform you that DIRECTV Broadband will discontinue
operations. This email shall constitute DIRECTV Broadband’s 30 day notice of
termination to you. Please be aware that DIRECTV Broadband’s network (including
your email services) will remain operational for a minimum of 30 days from the
date of this notice. We are working with alternate broadband providers to
determine options for your broadband service, and as a result, our network may
(but is not guaranteed to) remain operational for some period beyond such 30 days
as we work through those options. If you wish to terminate service before our
network is discontinued, please contact us at www.directvdsl.com. No early
termination or cancellation fees will apply. In any event, you will only be
billed for services received through termination of your service (whether
terminated by DIRECTV Broadband or at your request).
We know you have many questions. The best way to keep up-to-date is to refer to
www.directvdsl.com. We’ll keep this site current with the latest information on
your account, billing issues and next steps.
If you are a DIRECTV subscriber, your satellite television service will not be
disrupted in any way. Please do not call DIRECTV customer service regarding your
DIRECTV DSL high-speed Internet service, as they will not be able to help you.
It has been a privilege to serve you.
Sincerely,
DIRECTV Broadband Customer Care
