grr. So I order this barebones computer for my sister on 9/27/2002 from Accubyte. I haven't received or heard anything from them yet, and my bank account was $231.43 lighter on 10/4/2002. So I check the order online, it says "in progress" but has no shipping information. I call the company up and ask what's going on. They said there was a billing problem and asked me to call a long distance number to their billing dept. It turns out to be the RMA dept. number. So I call back and ask for a manager. the guy that answers says "that's me." Yeah, like I believe that, but I go on and act like I do. He tells me the right number and says the people just went to lunch 5 minutes earlier, but sees the problem with the order. Apparently my bank "refused authorization" on the charge and the money's gone because the credit card system takes the money first and verifies later. He then told me the billing people would call me back in around 30 minutes but I should talk to my bank. So while I'm waiting on the call I go ahead and call my bank. They tell me that Accubyte has my money and there wasn't a problem with the transaction. I've bought hundreds of things online with this card with no problems. I ask the lady at my bank about the authorization thing the Accubyte "manager" told me and she said that's not how it works with the check cards we use. It verifies at the time of purchase, so if you don't have available funds it won't go through. I did though, and they have their money. Someone's gonna get an earfull of a pissed off Jeremy when they call back. Oh, and they have about 20 minutes now. grr...
